Medication Compliance Monitoring System (MCMS) PDF Print E-mail
In Development:

The Medication Compliance Monitoring System (MCMS) offers real-time notification and monitoring of a prescription regimen. The system is implemented using four components: medication cap, base unit, database server, and web client software.

The MCMS is based on an electronically enhanced medication cap that provides prescription regimen alerts, records compliance data, and supplies this data to a remote base unit. The cap fits on the end of a standard prescription bottle and utilizes wireless communications to provide portability.

The base unit will receive the compliance data from the medication cap and relay the information to a database server for storage via the Internet. Also, it will receive data from the web client software and then transmit this data to the medication cap when prescription modifications are necessary.

The web client software connects to the data server and allows medical practitioners to monitor patient progress utilizing charts and graphical methods. The software can be configured to provide alerts when a prescription regimen is not being followed and updates can be made when adjustments are necessary.

MedStar MCMS Applications

The system is intuitive and hassle free:

  • Patient receives a prescription from a pharmacy or by mail, where a standard pill bottle is outfitted with a medication capl
  • Real-time, remote compliance monitoring is completely autonomous
  • Operates outside of the range of the base station
  • Prescription regimen information is digitally stored in the medication cap and will alert the patient audibly and vidually when its time to take a pill; it can also be updated remotely by a medical practitioner
  • Prescription bottle can be carried and handled without affecting normal day-to-day activities
