$27.8 MILLION RELEASED TO EXPAND THE USE OF HEALTH IT
HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius recently announced awards totaling
$27.8 million to health center-controlled networks and large multi-site
health centers to implement electronic health records (EHR) and other
health information technology (HIT) innovations.
The funds are part of the $2 billion allotted to HHS’ Health Resources
and Services Administration (HRSA) under the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) to expand health care services to low-
income and uninsured individuals through its health center program.

OBAMA ANNOUNCES $5 BILLION IN RESEARCH GRANTS
President Obama, in an effort to stimulate the economy and support
critical research, recently announced $5 billion in grants during a
visit to the National Institutes of Health.
The money comes from economic stimulus funds and is aimed at supporting
research projects as well as the jobs related to them to fight cancer
and other major diseases.
